    Riding with the Juke Joint Kings is the band's second album, following on from their highly praised debut 'Live at the Stonemasons'.

    The influence of the pioneering electric Chicago blues of the 40s and 50s is clear from the opening track, Riding With The Juke Joint Kings (telling the story of how the band was formed) through to the closing track 'End of the Line' (a fictionalised account of the singer's struggle with vices in his formative years and ongoing battle with temptation).

    Soul and rock influences can also be heard, but not such that the band moves away from electric harp and guitar driven blues and remains true to its influences from the golden period of Chess, Veejay and other great blues labels.

    CD comes in card wallet featuring photography by Paul Laybourne of a storm brewing over the train station of the band's home town.

lyrics

End of the Line

Well my mother did her best to bring me up right,
Before I climbed aboard that train;
Your father will be waiting at the end of the line,
Just you be good on the way.
Well I set me down, and I looked around,
And the folks was the homely kind,
‘long comes a man, ticket gun in hand;
Calling ‘tickets for the end of the line?!’

We’re all riding on that train; riding to the end of the line.

I raised my hand, and said “I think I am”,
And his smile was plain to see;
(Said) “That ain’t your seat, get up on your feet (boy),
Now just you come with me.”
Well that next carriage was all full of liquor,
He said “drink ‘til you’ve had your fill”;
(and) Though I knew I mustn’t, I surely couldn’t,
Stop drinking ‘til I felt ill.

(whoo) I was riding on that train; I had a ticket to the end of the line

I staggered through from carriage three from two,
Full of ladies saying they’d be my friend;
Stopped calling my honey, when they’d spent my money,
And the train when around the bend.
(well) the man with the ticket gun came back,
and he led me through the door.
Sat me down at a poker table,
Said “You’ll be a winner here for sure!”

Yeah, I was riding on that train; riding to the end of the line.

Well I said “Hey mista, I spent my money”,
He said “don’t worry son;
You can borrow mine, if you sign this line.
Pay me back when you have won”
Well my mother’s words, they came back to me,
And I fled to the holy kind;
Hid me under a coat from that snake eyed goat,
Punching tickets for the end of the line.

(you can run but you can’t hide)

“You’re riding on my train; (you ain’t fooling no one boy) you got a ticket to the end of the line!”

They got off at the station, some town called Salvation,
So I thought I’d take a lookee-see;
I called my father about the things I’d one,
And he said that he’d forgiven me.
From that day then to this day now,
I decided I would walk the line.
But every now and then that train comes by,
Shouting “tickets for the end of the line?!”

“You can ride upon my train; ride to the end of the line”
